Getting Started
What is DeepGrooves?
DeepGrooves is a desktop and mobile app for managing your vinyl record collection. It helps you organize albums, track details like pressings and condition, and understand what you own — without the noise of social features or algorithmic feeds.
How is DeepGrooves different from a spreadsheet?
Spreadsheets are flexible but fragile. DeepGrooves gives you structured album data, image support, statistics, filtering, and a real UI designed for collections — not rows and columns that break when your collection grows.
How much does DeepGrooves cost?
DeepGrooves is free during the beta period. After public launch, it will be $29.99 per year or $2.99 per month. One subscription covers one desktop and one mobile device.
Importing & Data
Can I import albums from Discogs?
Yes. You can search the Discogs database and bulk import album data into your collection. However, DeepGrooves does not connect to your personal Discogs account, so you cannot directly import your existing Discogs collection. This may be added in the future.
Do I need a Discogs account?
No. DeepGrooves uses its own access to the Discogs database, so you don't need a Discogs account to search or import album data.
Does DeepGrooves sync with Discogs?
No. DeepGrooves imports data from Discogs but does not maintain a live sync. Your collection in DeepGrooves is independent — you can edit it freely without worrying about upstream changes on Discogs overwriting your data.
Can I export my data?
Export functionality is planned. The goal is to ensure your data remains portable and never locked inside the app.
Where is my data stored?
Your collection is stored in the cloud. Both desktop and mobile connect to the same data, so your collection is always up to date on both devices.
Features
What can I track for each album?
Each album includes: title, artist, release year, pressing year, format, condition, label, catalog number, purchase price, estimated value, personal notes, track listing with sides and durations, and multiple images.
Does DeepGrooves support wishlists?
Yes. You can mark albums as wishlist items. They stay in your collection view but are clearly distinguished from albums you actually own.
Can I filter by genre?
Yes. DeepGrooves lets you filter your collection by genre. The genre list reflects what you actually own, not a predetermined list.
Does the mobile app have all the same features?
No. The mobile app is designed for quick lookups, barcode scanning, and light browsing — not full editing. Heavy collection work happens on desktop.
Can I scan barcodes?
Yes. The mobile app includes barcode scanning for fast album identification. It uses the Discogs database to match barcodes to releases.
Platforms & Licensing
What platforms does DeepGrooves support?
Currently: Windows desktop and Android mobile. macOS and iOS are planned.
How does licensing work?
DeepGrooves is licensed per individual. One subscription ($29.99/year or $2.99/month after beta) covers one desktop and one mobile device. There are no team plans, organization licenses, or shared accounts.
Can I use DeepGrooves on multiple devices?
Yes. One subscription covers one desktop and one mobile device. Your collection lives in the cloud, so both devices always have the same data.
Philosophy
Why no social features?
DeepGrooves is built for collectors who want to manage their collection, not perform it. Social features add noise, pressure, and complexity that don't serve the core purpose.
Will you add sharing or public profiles?
No. This is not on our roadmap. DeepGrooves is intentionally personal software.
Why desktop-first?
Serious collection work — editing, organizing, bulk imports, cleanup — happens best with a keyboard, mouse, and big screen. Mobile is for convenience when you're away from your desk, not for heavy lifting.
