DeepGrooves FAQ

Answers to common questions about DeepGrooves.

Getting Started

What is DeepGrooves?

DeepGrooves is a collection manager built specifically for vinyl collectors. It lets you track every pressing you own, import from Discogs, scan barcodes at the record store, map physical storage locations, and understand what your collection is worth. It's available now as a web app at deepgrooves.app. Native desktop and Android apps are in development.

How is DeepGrooves different from a spreadsheet?

Spreadsheets are flexible but fragile. DeepGrooves gives you structured pressing data, condition grading, market values, artwork, a full tracklist per album, physical storage mapping, listening history, AI-assisted search, and a real UI built for collections — not rows and columns that break when your library grows past a hundred records.

How much does DeepGrooves cost?

During the founder period, DeepGrooves is $2.99/month or $29.99/year. Founder pricing is available through December 31, 2026. If you sign up during that window, your rate is locked forever — it never increases, even after public launch. One subscription covers all platforms: web now, plus desktop and Android when they release. There are no feature tiers; every subscriber gets the full product.

Is there a free trial?

There's no timed free trial, but the web app is available to try. Sign up, explore the interface, and decide from there. Cancel anytime — access continues through the end of your billing period.

The Web App

What can I do in the web app right now?

Everything. The web app has full collection management, Discogs import, barcode scanning via your browser camera, market values, the Vault (physical storage mapping), DeeJay AI, audio previews, statistics, folders, bulk operations, and more. It works in any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPad, or Chromebook. No installation required.

Can I use DeepGrooves on my iPad or Mac?

Yes. The web app runs in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or any modern browser. Open deepgrooves.app and you're in. Native Apple apps are planned for a future release.

Can I scan barcodes in the web app?

Yes. The web app uses your device camera to scan barcodes. It works in browsers that support camera access — which is most modern browsers. Point your camera at any barcode on album packaging and DeepGrooves will search across 14+ million Discogs pressings to find a match.

Importing & Data

Can I import my Discogs collection?

Yes. Connect your Discogs account and import your entire collection or wantlist. DeepGrooves pulls in full release data for every album: title, artist, year, label, catalog number, country, tracklist, artwork, genres, styles, and condition grades. You select what to import — duplicates are flagged automatically.

Do I need a Discogs account to use DeepGrooves?

No. You can search the Discogs database and add albums without a Discogs account. A Discogs account is only needed if you want to bulk-import your existing Discogs collection in one step.

Does DeepGrooves sync with Discogs automatically?

No. DeepGrooves imports data from Discogs but your collection is then independent. Changes you make in DeepGrooves stay in DeepGrooves. Changes on Discogs don't overwrite your data. This is intentional — your local edits (condition grades, notes, vault locations) belong to you.

Can I import from a CSV file?

Yes. You can import from a CSV or Excel file with column mapping and a preview before committing. You can also paste a list of album names from your clipboard for batch Discogs search.

Where is my data stored?

Your collection is stored in the cloud and synced across all your devices. Every time you open DeepGrooves — on any device or browser — you see your current collection.

Can I export my data?

Data export is planned. The goal is to ensure your collection is always portable and never locked in the app.

Features

What can I track for each album?

Title, artist, release year, original release year, label, catalog number, country, format, pressing details, media condition (Goldmine scale), sleeve condition, purchase price, estimated market value, personal notes, genres, tracklist with sides and durations, multiple artwork images, runout etchings, physical vault location, play history, and star rating.

How do market values work?

DeepGrooves pulls low, median, and high prices from Discogs marketplace listings for each pressing. It then applies your condition grade to calculate a realistic value: Mint maps to the high price, Near Mint and VG+ to the median, VG and below to the low price. You can override the value manually at any time. Pricing data is refreshed on demand or automatically.

What is the Vault?

The Vault is a physical storage map for your collection. You create rooms and racks that match your actual shelving, then assign albums to specific bins. Search any album and DeepGrooves shows you exactly which room, rack, and slot it's in. Each rack shows a visual grid with album thumbnails, counts, and values.

What is DeeJay?

DeeJay is an AI assistant that has full access to your collection data. Ask it anything in plain language: "What jazz records do I have from the 1960s?" or "Which of my albums are worth the most?" or "What did I add last month?" It queries your real data and gives you real answers — not generic responses.

Does DeepGrooves support wishlists?

Yes. Mark albums as wishlist items and they appear in a separate Wishlist view. When you buy one, convert it to owned with a single action.

Can I organize albums into folders?

Yes. Create folders with custom names and colors, nest them up to three levels deep, and drag albums in. One album can belong to multiple folders. Pin folders you use frequently to the sidebar for one-click access.

Platforms

What platforms does DeepGrooves support?

The web app is available now at deepgrooves.app — works on any modern browser on any OS. Native desktop and Android apps are in development. Founder subscribers will get access to both when they release. iOS and macOS native apps are planned for a future release.

How does licensing work?

One subscription covers all platforms. Pay once, use the web app now, and get desktop and Android access automatically when they launch. There are no device limits or per-platform charges. $2.99/month or $29.99/year. Founder pricing is available through December 31, 2026 and is locked forever once claimed.

Can I use DeepGrooves on multiple devices?

Yes. Your collection lives in the cloud, so any device you sign in on has the same data. There are no per-device activation limits for the web app.

Philosophy

Does DeepGrooves have social features?

DeepGrooves does not have follower counts, public profiles, feeds, or ads. It does let you intentionally share what you choose: read-only collection links, recent-play links, square collection images, and Now Spinning images. Your collection stays private unless you create a share.

Can I share my collection?

Yes. You can create read-only links for your full collection, folders, artists, genres, today's plays, the last 7 days, or this month's plays. Viewers can browse what you shared, but they cannot edit anything or access your account.

Why build a web app instead of desktop-first?

The web app reaches every platform immediately — Mac, Windows, Linux, iPad, Chromebook — without requiring separate installations. Serious collection work (editing, bulk imports, organizing) works just as well in a browser tab as in a native app. We're building native desktop and Android apps for collectors who prefer them, but the web app is not a compromise.
